Senator Cardin was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2006. He served in the Maryland House of Delegates from 1966 to 1986 (where he was Speaker from 1979 to 1986) and in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1986 to 2006. He is the Ranking Minority Member of the Foreign Relations Committee and also sits on the following committees: Environment and Public Works, Finance, and Small Business and Entrepreneurship.
