On February 24, 1997, scientists at the Roslin Institute in Edinburgh, Scotland, announced that they had cloned an adult mammal for the first time. The researchers used the nucleus of a mammary gland cell from an adult sheep and a sheep egg that had its nucleus removed. The two were fused using electrical pulses; the pulses also prompted the egg to start dividing and form an embryo.
