What Congress Is Doing on Mandatory Detention
New rules for mandatory detention of undocumented immigrants
On Jan. 25, President Donald Trump signed the Laken Riley Act into law. The act amends the Immigration and Nationality Act to require the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to detain certain non-U.S. nationals who have been charged with, arrested for, convicted of or admitted to having committed theft-related crimes.
