During the 2016 presidential campaign, Donald Trump vowed to conduct “extreme vetting” of immigrants and refugees seeking entry into the United States to protect the country from “some of the most dangerous and volatile regions of the world that have a history of exporting terrorism.” One week after taking office, he followed through on that pledge with an Executive order that immediately imposed a 90-day ban on immigration from seven predominantly Muslim countries: Iran, Iraq, Syria, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen.
