The following Trump Administration directives set new policy for entry into the United States on the southwest border and the subsequent separation of immigrant families. Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ “Zero-Tolerance” Policy Announcement Attorney General Jeff Sessions [on April 6, 2018] notified all U.S. attorney’s offices along the southwest border of a new “zero-tolerance policy” for offenses under 8 U.S.C. section 1325(a), which prohibits both attempted illegal entry and illegal entry into the United States by an alien.
