The FTC is an independent Federal Government agency whose mission is to promote the efficient functioning of the marketplace by protecting consumers from unfair or deceptive acts or practices and to increase consumer choice by promoting competition. The FTC is composed of five members appointed by the President with the advice and consent of the Senate. Robert Pitofsky has served as Chairman of the Federal Trade Commission since April 12, 1995. At the time of his nomination he was Professor of Law at Georgetown University Law Center and Of Counsel to the Washington, DC, law firm of Arnold & Porter….
