In 2012, the founders of Aereo, Inc., unveiled what they believed was an innovative way to use technology to provide television viewers with easy access to some of their favorite shows and sporting events. The service allowed subscribers to use their Internet-connected devices ― computers, phones, tablets, and even televisions ― to select, remotely record, and then play back programs and events originally broadcast over the air by major television networks like NBC, ABC, Fox, and CBS.
