Recent Action on Iraq

The 108th Congress held numerous hearings and inquiries relating to post-Saddam Iraq on such subjects as corruption in the United Nations-run Oil-for-Food Program, abuses at Abu Ghraib prison, and why substantial amounts of weapons of mass destruction were not found in that country. Congress has also continued to appropriate reconstruction and military funding for the effort in Iraq. Although Members have applauded the overthrow of the Saddam Hussein regime, the performance of the U.S. military, and the success of the recent Iraqi elections, many Members have criticized the Administration for inadequate planning for the post-war period.
