Senator McConnell was first elected to the U.S. Senate in 1984. He served as Chief Legislative Assistant to U.S. Senator Marlow Cook (KY-R) from 1967 to 1970, as Deputy Assistant U.S. Attorney General from 1974 to 1975, and as Jefferson County (Kentucky) Judge-Executive from 1977 to 1984.
