Senator Collins was first elected to the U.S. Senate in 1996. She served as a Legislative Aide to then Senator Bill Cohen (ME-R) from 1975 to 1987, as Maine Commissioner of Professional and Financial Regulation from 1987 to 1992, and as New England Administrator of the U.S. Small Business Administration from 1992 to 1993.
