Senator Hollings was first elected to the U.S. Senate in 1966. He served in the South Carolina House of Representatives from 1948 to 1954, as South Carolina’s Lieutenant Governor from 1954 to 1958, and as Governor from 1958 to 1962. He is the Ranking Minority Member on the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee, on which he has served for all 36 years of his tenure in the Senate. He also serves on the Appropriations Committee and the Budget Committee.
