The West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection (WVDEP) is responsible for the promotion of a healthy environment through its divisions of Air, Land, and Water and Waste. Randy Huffman, a West Virginia native, was appointed to his current position in 2008. He previously served as Deputy Secretary and as director of the Division of Mining Reclamation.
