Congressman Vento, of the Fourth District of Minnesota, was first elected to the US House of Representatives in 1976. He served in the Minnesota State Legislature from 1970 to 1976. From 1985 to 1994, he was Chairman of what was then called the Subcommittee on National Parks, Forests and Public Lands of the House Natural Resources Committee.
