Raymond Simon, Deputy Secretary

The Department of Education was created in 1980 by combining offices from several Federal agencies. Its mission is to promote student achievement and preparation for global competitiveness by fostering educational excellence and ensuring equal access. Raymond Simon was confirmed as Deputy Secretary of Education in May 2005.
