Ambassador William Marsh
The United States fought on the side of the Republic of Korea in the Korean War from 1950 to 1953, in which more than 33,000 Americans died. It still has more than 35,000 troops in the country. It does not have any official diplomatic relations with the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, but has been negotiating with that nation since the early 1990s in an attempt to discourage it from developing nuclear weapons.
