The following are major nuclear nonproliferation treaties signedby the United States and currently in force.Hot Line Agreement. The Hot Line agreement, signed in 1963, was the first bilateral agreement between the United States and the Soviet Union that gave concrete recognition to the perils implicit in modern nuclear weapons systems. The agreement was in the form of a "Memorandum of Understanding Between the United States of America and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics Regarding the Establishment of a Direct Communications Link."
