1973 In Roe v. Wade, the U.S. Supreme Court, by a vote of 7 to 2, invalidated a Texas law prohibiting abortions that were not necessary to save the woman’s life. The law legalized abortions based on a woman’s constitutional right to privacy. In Doe v. Bolton, the Court struck down, 7 to 2, a Georgia law requiring that abortions be performed in hospitals and that a woman must secure the approval of two physicians and a hospital committee before obtaining an abortion.1976 In Planned Parenthood of Central Missouri v.
