Herbert Hendin, M.D., Medical Director

Founded in 1986, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, with over 1,000 members, is dedicated to advancing knowledge of suicide prevention and the treatment of depression. Its activities include support for research and treatment, information dissemination, and promotion of professional training and public education. Dr. Hendin has been Professor of Psychiatry at New York Medical College since 1978. From 1960 to 1978, he was on the faculty of the Columbia University Department of Psychiatry and the Psychoanalytic Center. From 1973 to 1987, he was Director of the Center for Psychosocial Studies.
