The term “gerrymandering” has been part of the American political vocabulary for more than 200 years. Put simply, it is the practice of redrawing the boundaries of legislative districts after every decennial national census in order to maximize partisan advantage. Politicians have been gerrymandering congressional and State district lines since the earliest days of the United States. In recent times, however, the practice has been conducted with scientific precision using computer modeling.
