Teachers May Ask Students To Grade Each Other's Assignments

This case was granted certiorari on June 25, 2001, and was reversed and remanded on February 19, 2002. In a unanimous decision, the Court ruled that teachers do not violate the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), which provides for the confidentiality of student records, when they instruct their students to exchange homework papers, quizzes, or tests and mark incorrect answers while the teachers go over the answers in class.
