The issue of abortion, which played prominently in the recent budget showdown, will be back on the table shortly when the full House takes up H.R. 3, the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act. Introduced by Representative Chris Smith (NJ-R), the bill would make permanent the Hyde Amendment, a legislative “rider” barring Federal money from being spent on abortions that has been attached to Federal appropriations measures every year since 1977.
