A School Board Cannot Enact a Student-Distribution Plan That Mandates Minority Percentages
Meredith v. Jefferson City Board of Education — This case was granted certiorari on June 5, 2006,and was reversed and remanded on June 28, 2007. In a 5-to-4 decision, the Courtheld that a school board student-distribution plan that requires all schools tohave between 15 percent and 50 percent African American enrollment violates theFourteenth Amendment.
