Urban Farming
Senator Debbie Stabenow (MI-D) has introduced the Urban Agriculture Act to provide Federal support for the growth of urban farming. The legislation would expand Federal financial assistance, research and management tools, education, and mentorship for urban farmers. It would also create a new urban agriculture office within the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). Among other benefits, smaller-scale urban farming operations would be able to take advantage of USDA loan programs to pay for production, marketing, and processing of their foods.Urban growers would be able to form agricultural cooperatives in order to pool their resources for purchasing equipment and other purposes….
