On September 22, the House Subcommittee on Commerce, Manufacturing, and Trade and the House Subcommittee on Energy and Power held a joint hearing on the “Midterm Review and Update on the Corporate Average Fuel Economy Program and Greenhouse Gas Emissions Standards For Motor Vehicles.” In 2012, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration set an average fuel efficiency goal of 54.5 miles per gallon (mpg) by 2025 for cars and light-duty trucks sold in the United States.
