The Civil Rights Act of 1964 and Workplace Bias The Civil Rights Act of 1964 was a landmark law that provided sweeping new protections for Americans against discrimination based on their race, skin color, religion, national origin or sex. Title VII of the law covers employment discrimination, including bias in hiring, firing, promotion and the workplace environment.
