Jack C. Phillips is a baker who, along with his wife, has owned Masterpiece Cakeshop in Denver, Colorado, for 24 years. A devout Christian, Phillips operates his business according to his religious values, closing the store on Sundays and declining to make special-order desserts to promote atheism or commemorate events, such as divorces, Halloween, and gay marriages, that he views as counter to his faith.
