UN High Commissioner for Human Rights
The Office of the United Nations (UN) High Commissioner for Human Rights (UNHCR) was established in December 1993 with a mandate to promote and protect all human rights. UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon named Navi Pillay of South Africa, High Commissioner for Human Rights on July 28, 2008. Prior to that, she served as a judge on the International Criminal Court.
