Legislative proposals to expand school choice nationwide are expected to be high on the congressional agenda in the next Congress if Betsy DeVos, President-elect Donald Trump’s nominee for Education secretary, is confirmed. DeVos is a strong advocate for more privatized, market based, public education. School choice reforms generally fall into the following categories: Federal and State-funded vouchers, which allow students to attend any public or private schools, including those run by religious organizations and nonprofit entities.
