In the wake of the Great Depression, Congress drafted a series of policies to aid farmers and rural Americans. The first iteration of the Farm Bill included 18 bills. Current versions of the Farm Bill are expansive, holding 12 titles that cover a broad range of issues. And for almost a century, the Farm Bill has been a constant on Capitol Hill. When this issue went to press, the fate of the Farm Bill was up in the air. The 2018 Farm Bill expired in 2023, and Congress authorized a one-year extension through the 2024 farm season. But substantial policy disagreements have made a new Farm Bill difficult to pass.
