On December 7, the White House sent a request to Congress for $60.4 billion in emergency aid for communities that were hardest hit by Superstorm Sandy, emphasizing that no spending cuts should be made in other programs to cover the expense. It’s likely that the request will be the first installment of Federal aid needed for recovery from the natural disaster.
