Belgium joined the United Nations on December 27, 1945. It is an elected member to the UN Security Council whose term expires on December 31, 2008. It held the presidency of the Security Council during the month of August 2008. Jan Grauls has served as Belgium’s permanent representative to the Security Council since June 5, 2008.
