Burkina Faso has been a member of the UN since September 20, 1960. Its two-year term as an elected member of the UN Security Council expires on December 31, 2009. It held the presidency of the Security Council for the month of December 2009. Michel Kafando has served as Burkina Faso’s Permanent Representative to the UN since April 1998.
