Overview of the Commerce Department's Plan for 2000 Census
The Census Bureau’s goal in Census 2000 is to take the most accurate and cost-effective census possible. The importance of an accurate decennial census cannot be overstated. Census data are used to reapportion the House of Representatives, ensuring that political representation is distributed evenly to all Americans, and to determine allocation formulas for the distribution of billions of dollars of Federal and State funds each year.
