The Los Angeles County Public Defender’s Office is primary trial counsel in the County of Los Angeles for all persons charged with crimes who are indigent and unable to afford private counsel. The office represented defendant Gary Ewing, whose Supreme Court case was consolidated with Andrade v. Lockyer. Albert J.
