Public debate and attention have focused on whether certain medical treatments should be available for transgender minors to address a discordance between a person’s sex characteristics and gender identity. A number of states have passed laws prohibiting specific treatments for minors, including puberty-blocking medication (“puberty blockers”), hormones and surgical procedures.
