The Cuban Committee for Democracy, founded in 1993, is a nonprofit organization of Cuban-Americans of all walks of life. The Committee opposes the Castro government and supports a peaceful, negotiated transition to democracy in Cuba. A native of Cuba, Silvia Wilhelm was smuggled out of the country in 1961 under the auspices of "Operación Pedro Pan," which helped thousands of Cuban children flee communism. She attended college in Miami and at The American University School of International Relations in Washington, DC She is now a wife, mother, and businesswoman.
