The Cuban Committee for Democracy, founded in 1993, is a nonprofit organization of Cuban-Americans of all walks of life. The Committee opposes the Castro government and supports a peaceful, negotiated transition to democracy in Cuba. A native of Cuba, Silvia Wilhelm was smuggled out of the country in 1961 under the auspices of "Operación Pedro Pan," which helped thousands of Cuban children flee communism.
