With28 million people, Peru isthe fifth most populous country in Latin America.Although its economy is very small compared to that of the United States, its leading trading partner, Peru hasundergone a period of expansion in recent years and is now one of the mostliberal market economies in the region. According to the Office of the U.S.Trade Representative, in 2005, U.S.exports to Perutotaled nearly $2.3 billion, while two-way trade between the two countriesamounted to $7.4 billion.
