William J. Perry is the Michael and Barbara Berberian Professor at Stanford University, with a joint appointment in the Department of Engineering-Economic Systems & Operations Research and the Institute for International Studies; a Fellow at the Hoover Institute; and Codirector, with Ashton B. Carter, of the Stanford-Harvard Preventive Defense Project. He was the nineteenth U.S. Secretary of Defense, serving from 1994 to 1997.
