Senator Hagel was first elected to the U.S. Senate in 1996. He served as Administrative Assistant to then U.S. Representative John Y. McCollister (NE-R) from 1971 to 1977, and from 1977 to 1980, he was Manager of Government Affairs for the Firestone Tire & Rubber Company.
