Senator Webb was first elected to the U.S. Senate in 2006. He served on the staff of the House Veterans Affairs Committee from 1977 to 1981 and as Assistant Secretary of Defense for Reserve Affairs from 1984 to 1987. He was Secretary of the Navy from 1987 to 1988. He sits on the Armed Services Committee, the Veterans Affairs Committee, and the Joint Economic Committee.
