Senator Murray was first elected to the U.S. Senate in 1992. She was a member of the Shoreline (Washington) School Board from 1985 to 1989 and President from 1985 to 1986. She served in the Washington Senate from 1988 to 1992. She serves on the Appropriations Committee, where she chairs the Subcommittee on Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development.
