The Marine Conservation Institute is dedicated to securing permanent, strong protection for the oceans’ most important places. The organization’s Global Ocean Refuge System (GLORES), announced in 2013, is designed to catalyze strong protection for at least 20 percent of the ecosystems in each marine biogeographic region of the world’s oceans by 2030. Dr. Lance Morgan, a marine biologist, became President of the Institute in 2012. He chairs the Cordell Bank Sanctuary Advisory Council and holds a research faculty appointment at Bodega Marine Laboratory.
