Theodore Garelis, Counsel of RecordBrenda Roe and Anna Doe filed suit against Eloise Anderson, Director of the California Department of Social Services, California Governor Pete Wilson, and Craig L. Brown, Director of the California Department of Finance, alleging that a provision of the California Work Opportunity and Responsibility to Kids program (CalWORKS) limiting new residents’ welfare benefits for one year unconstitutionally violated their right to settle unhindered in the State. Rita Saenz, Gray Davis, and B. Timothy Gage later replaced Anderson, Wilson, and Brown, respectively, and the case name was adjusted accordingly. Theodore Garelis has been a Deputy Attorney General…
