Terms Used in Oil Production

Barrel — A unit of measurement used in the oil industry for oil and petroleum products. One barrel equals 158.978 litres or 42 U.S. gallons. Barrels per day — A unit of measurement used in the industry for the production rates of oil fields, pipelines, and transportation — normally calculated as an average figure over a longer period of time.
