1959 — Revolutionary forces seize control of Havana, Cuba. The United States recognizes the new Cuban Government. Trials and executions of former Batista regime officials begin. The Agrarian Reform Law expropriates farmlands over 1,000 acres and forbids foreign land ownership. 1960 — Diplomatic relations resume between Cuba and the Soviet Union.
