The United Nations International Independent Investigation Committee was created by UN Security Council Resolution 1595 on April 7, 2005. It is charged with investigating the assassination of former Lebanese President Rafik Hariri. Detlev Mehlis is commissioner of the UNIIIC and senior public prosecutor in the Office of the Attorney General in Berlin, Germany.
