Early this year, President Trump called for the hiring of 15,000 new immigration border agents to carry out his Executive orders to increase immigration enforcement. In memos implementing the Executive orders, then Secretary of Homeland (DHS) Security John Kelly said that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) should “expeditiously hire” 10,000 additional agents and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CPB) should “immediately begin” hiring 5,000 additional Border Patrol agents.
