In assessing how Judge Gorsuch views the role of the judiciary, many commentators have likened the nominee to Justice Scalia. During the nearly 30 years that Justice Scalia served on the Supreme Court, the late justice was a well-known proponent of originalism, textualism, and the view that clear rules should guide the work of the lower courts.
