Many noncitizens may experience challenges accessing health care services because they lack access to health insurance coverage. Additionally, federal law prohibits certain noncitizens from receiving coverage through federal health care programs (e.g., Medicaid, the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), Medicare and subsidies for private health insurance under the Affordable Care Act), and some noncitizens are employed in jobs that do not provide employer-based health insurance coverage.
