Summary of Major Provisions

The purpose of this act is to institute in the armed forces a policy of nondiscrimination based on sexual orientation. Repeal of the 1992 Policy. Repeals the Federal statute, enacted in 1993 as part of the National Defense Authorization Act for 1994, pursuant to which the military’s Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell policy was established. Establishment of Nondiscrimination Policy. Creates a Federal statute that prevents discrimination against current and prospective members of the armed forces on the basis of sexual orientation.
